What is a URB Paper Core?

What is a (URB) Paper Core?

URB Paper cores are sturdy, tubular supports made from uncoated recycled paperboard (URB) that provide structure and stability to a range of materials converted onto the core. Paper cores are commonly used in manufacturing, especially in industries where roll-based materials are used. The cores must be very strong to withstand the compression and weight of the materials wrapped around them.

PAPER CORES VS PAPER TUBES

While the terms are often used interchangeably, there is a distinct difference between paper cores and paper tubes. Paper tubes are generally designed for shipping products and as a protective covering to contain the material within the tube. In contrast, paper cores are typically designed to provide structural integrity for the material wound around the core.

MATERIALS, CONSTRUCTION AND APPLICATION
Ox paper cores are made from 100% uncoated recycled paperboard, which can be recycled after use. The production process involves wrapping layers of paperboard around a mandrel and applying adhesives to bond the layers together, thus making a product that can withstand significant weight and pressure without collapsing. The cores are fabricated to allow applied materials to wind and unwind smoothly when used in industry processes.

Industries that utilize paper cores include fabric & textile, tape & label, film & flexible packaging, and medical products. A paper core’s interior diameter, wall thickness, and length can be customized, ensuring precise tolerances for the consumer.

Textiles
In the textile industry, paper cores support woven and non-woven fabrics, yarns, and other rolled materials.  These cores are designed to maintain their form and integrate into the textile production process.

Film and Flexible Packaging
In the film and flexible packaging industry, a core’s strength is critical in allowing products to be converted onto the core. The core’s strength must withstand the tension during the winding and unwinding process.

Tape and Label
Tape and Label cores are designed to provide structural support and a foundation to keep materials on the core as they are used in other applications.
