Job Title: Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager (bilingual)



The Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager is responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing, all health, safety, and environmental compliance programs, issues, and proactive initiatives for the paper mill and converting operations at the Aurora site.  Successful candidates will be comfortable frequently shifting priorities and “wearing multiple hats”. Being a small company, someone with a diverse background and skill set will be highly preferred.

Bilingual required: Must have the ability to accurately and proficiently understand, read, write, and speak English and Spanish.



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborate with operations team leaders to bring EHS expertise to operational discussions and projects.
  • Recommend and implement safety and environmental policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal agencies including but not limited to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Illinois EPA (IEPA).
  • Participates in the development and implementation of company-wide safety programs such as lockout/tagout, hazard communication, machine guarding, electrical safety, fall protection, and other workplace safety programs.
  • Assist in developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Conduct facility-wide safety inspections including, but not limited to, ladders, eye wash stations, fall protection equipment, PPE, fire extinguishers, first aid supplies, etc.
  • Accountable for accurate and on-time root cause investigation process for all safety incidents and accidents, including but not limited to first aid, near misses, lost time/recordable injuries, and property damage.
  • Track and follow through with all root cause investigation findings/corrective actions.
  • Co-Chair the on-site Safety Committee, which includes providing meeting direction, direct audits, handle documentation, improve skill sets of committee members, and promote a positive and progressive environment.
  • Responsible for coordinating and instructing all safety trainings and maintaining required documentation.
  • Actively managing the safety on-board portion of the New Hire Orientation program.
  • Assist human resources and risk management personnel in managing worker compensation and other injury-related administrative requirements.
  • Maintain all safety metrics tracking and aid in the continuous improvement of the safety process.
  • Ensure any Safety Action Plan tasks assigned to this position are completed.
  • Responsible for all environmental compliance programs including, but not limited to:
    1. Water Usage Reports
    2. Toxic Release Inventory/Form R
    3. Tier II
    4. Air Permitting
    5. Water Discharge Permit
    6. SPCC
    7. Hazardous and Universal Waste Profiling and disposal documentation
  • Understand environmental compliance requirements and ensure all regulatory deadlines and reporting is met.
  • Maintain proper environmental and safety documentation to include hard copy filing and electronic filing.
  • Draft professional communications to regulatory agencies.
  • Actively mentor and coach staff members and hourly team members on EHS requirements and culture.
  • Ensure operations is working towards and adhering to Corporate Safety compliance and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead by example, maintain integrity, and honesty with company and hourly employees.


  • Must be bilingual English/Spanish
  • Thorough knowledge on applicable governmental regulations
  • Proven experience leading a team in an industrial environment
  • Ability to work effectively and collaborate well in a team environment
  • Knowledgeable in applicable Federal, State, and local regulations including but not limited to: Employment & Labor Law, Safety (OSHA), and Worker’s Compensation.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills to include Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work effectively and collaborate well in a team environment
  • Ability to set priorities, achieve deadlines, and manage multiple tasks at the same time


  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the profession
  • Bachelor’s degree is not required but is preferred in Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, or Manufacturing
  • Experience with maintaining recordkeeping systems
  • Experience with conducting inspections, audits, and training
  • Experience implementing policies, programs, and procedures
  • Paper mill experience is a plus
