Corporate Safety Manager

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Corporate Safety Manager will assist in the implementation, development, and support of the safety and health programs for Ox recycled paper mills and paper converting facilities.  This position will assist in establishing reliable methods for improving safety performance and creating a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and compliance.

Bilingual required: Must have the ability to accurately and proficiently understand, read, write, and speak English and Spanish.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists VP of Environmental Health & Safety in the implementation of company-wide Safety and Health Management System, including a focus on organizational leadership.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of division-wide safety programs such as lockout/tagout, hazardous communication, machine guarding, electrical safety, fall protection, and other workplace safety programs.
  • Maintains knowledge of existing or proposed changes in all applicable regulations; interprets and applies relevant laws, regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Perform regular safety trainings across multiple manufacturing sites.
  • Develops recommendations to improve overall occupational health and safety management systems, including in-person and computer-based training materials, audits, and accident/incident investigations.
  • Research appropriate hazard control and mitigation strategies, including engineering controls, administrative controls, and PPE, while also supporting staff in the implementation of these control strategies across division operations.
  • Conducts routine health and safety inspections to determine process deficiencies, while empowering the employees and management team to determine corrective actions.
  • Manages regulatory documentation, including training records.
  • Assists in developing and improving multiple site Safety Committees.
  • Audits Safety Data Sheet database.
  • Opportunity to develop process flow diagrams to improve safety and efficiency in the manufacturing plant.
  • Develops and implements effective communication processes for safety and health decisions, policies, and activities.
  • 50-75% travel will be required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be bilingual in English/Spanish
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable governmental regulations
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and collaborate well in a team environment

  • Ability to set priorities, achieve deadlines, and manage multiple tasks at the same time
  • Proficient in computer skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the profession
  • Prefer 4-year degree (Safety, Industrial Engineering, or Manufacturing) or 2-year degree in Occupational Safety and Health from an accredited college
  • Experience with maintaining recordkeeping systems
  • Experience with conducting inspections, audits, and training
  • Implemented policies, programs, and procedures
  • Machine guarding experience is a plus
